Your 10-Minute Prayer = Saving a Life
The Urgent Need for 24/7 Prayer for Life
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 50,000 people died by suicide in the United States in 2024.
There are 525,600 minutes in one year:
365 days × 24 hours × 60 minutes = 525,600 minutes
Simple math shows:
50,000 ÷ 525,600 = 0.095
This means that, on average, one life was lost every 10 minutes in the United States throughout 2024.
A Sobering Perspective
The U.S. population in 2024 was approximately 340 million.
The annual suicide rate was therefore:
50,000 ÷ 340,000,000 = 0.000147 (0.0147%)
If, purely as a mathematical illustration, we applied this same rate to the world’s population of approximately 8 billion people, the result would be:
8,000,000,000 × 0.000147 = 1,176,000 deaths in one year
Dividing this by the number of minutes in a year:
1,176,000 ÷ 525,600 = 2.2
This would mean that more than two lives would be lost every single minute, every hour, every day, all year long.
This is not an official global statistic but rather a mathematical projection using the U.S. rate.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 730,000 people die by suicide worldwide each year. Our projection is higher, yet not dramatically different. In many parts of the world, suicide is believed to be underreported because of limited reporting systems and, in some countries, cultural, legal, or religious factors that discourage accurate reporting.
Even More Concerning
The number of people who die by suicide tells only part of the story.
Behind every death are many more individuals who reached such profound despair that they attempted to end their lives but survived.
Each attempt represents a person who believed life was no longer worth living.
Using the same mathematical projection worldwide would represent tens of millions of suicide attempts every year—millions of people living in overwhelming emotional pain and spiritual darkness.
Many experience thoughts such as:
“Life has no purpose.”
“There is no hope.”
“No one can help me.”
“I am trapped.”
“I am completely alone.”
“No one would care if I were gone.”
When someone reaches this depth of despair, words of encouragement alone may seem powerless. Reasoning alone may not be enough. Even professional counseling and psychiatric care—while often lifesaving and an essential part of recovery—may not, by themselves, overcome every spiritual and emotional battle.
A Spiritual Battle
As Christians, we recognize that behind this heartbreaking crisis there is a spiritual battle.
Jesus said:
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
The enemy seeks to steal hope, destroy lives, and bring death.
Christ came to give life.
This is why we believe prayer is not merely a compassionate response—it is a spiritual weapon entrusted to the Church by God Himself.
Our Calling
Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to stand in the gap for others.
Isaiah 62:6–7
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”
Luke 18:6–8
“And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him…? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.”
We believe God has called His people to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth, bringing His love and hope to those who are overwhelmed by darkness.
We also believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is able to reach hearts that no human being can reach, to restore hope where none remains, and to intervene where human strength has reached its limit.
The Vision of 24/7 Prayer for Life
The vision of 24/7 Prayer for Life is simple, yet powerful.
Believers around the world unite so that someone is praying every minute of every hour, day and night, asking God to rescue those who are considering ending their lives.
We pray that God would:
Rescue those standing at the edge of despair.
Break the chains of hopelessness.
Silence every voice of death and fear.
Reveal His love to the lonely and forgotten.
Guide each person to the help and support they need.
Replace darkness with His marvelous light.
Replace despair with hope.
Replace death with His gift of eternal and abundant life.
One person praying for ten minutes may seem like a small offering.
Yet when thousands of believers faithfully stand together before God, day and night, those ten-minute prayers become an unceasing cry rising to heaven.
We trust the promise of our Lord:
“Shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him?”
(Luke 18:7)
May the Lord find a Church that is awake, watching, and faithfully interceding until He rescues lives, restores hope, and glorifies His holy name.
Will you give just 10 minutes a day to stand before God for someone you may never meet—but whose life He can save?
Together, one prayer at a time, we can ensure that every minute of every day is covered in prayer for life.
